A misc thread where you can post TV stuff that might not warrant a thread of its own.

Like this one:

Oh, no! Nicole Richie is going to be on Chuck! :ermm:

Huh...

I just saw a commercial on the Cartoon Network for Superman: Doomsday, which is supposed to be airing next Saturday (12 July) at 9 pm EDT. It's based on the "Death of Superman" storyline from the comic books...

Has anyone seen Burn Notice? I've noticed Chris's avatar and then realized that Gabrielle Anwar was in it. She was on The Tudors as Henry VIII's sister and I remember her from Scent of a Woman and Body Snatchers.

So I spotted that show here when episode 7 aired the other day. Gabrielle looked good in tight jeans (nice bum, hehe). At least that episode was standard fare action, nothing special. Is it worth keeping up with?

Did anyone watch that Superman: Doomsday thing on Cartoon Network last night? I had to tape it because I knew I wouldn't be home til about halfway through it. I'm watching it now...

Yeah, so I just finished watching Superman: Doomsday. It was okay, not great.

Though the fact that the NWS last night apparently issued a flash flood warning (which the cable company of course had to interrupt the action and tell us about) for some county about 50 miles from where I live, right in the midst of the climatic battle between Supes and his double didn't really help...

Having not actually read the 'Death of Superman' storyline in the comics, I didn't know all the specifics of what went down (other than he died fighting Doomsday while protecting Metropolis, and that they had a funeral for him, and then he returned some months later), I didn't actually know what to expect.

No, I didn't watch it. Wasn't even aware they were airing it, actually. Even if I had known, though, I doubt I'd have watched it because I never really liked the whole 'Death of Superman' storyline in the first place. Doomsday has always struck me as kind of silly - a new character created simply to kill Supes? Why not use Darkseid? That, I think, would have been far more interesting.

Quite probably. Especially since Supes got "killed" (and took care of Doomsday) within the first half hour of the show. The next half hour consisted mostly of Lois moping about, miserable, because of him being gone and then deciding to go off and visit Martha (and basically let her know that Lois knew that Clark and Superman was the same person) and Jimmy leaving the Daily Planet to go work for some tabloid newspaper. Even Lex was miserable--because he didn't get to kill Superman himself.

Then a clone of Superman (created by Lex) showed up and started out doing the same sort of things Superman did (though he only knew what Lex had told him, so he was unaware of the relationship with Lois or that Martha was his mom, etc.). But the clone didn't have Superman's morality. So when Toyman killed a 4-year-old kid just prior to being taken into police custody, the clone took Toyman high up into the air and then let him drop, killing him.

The robot guy Kal-El had in the FoS rescued the real Superman (stealing him from Lex's building where Lex had taken his body after his clone "appeared" so no one would suspect it wasn't the real Superman), and managed to revive him from the deep healing trance or whatever it was that he'd gone into after his fight with Doomsday.

Wow. That's nothing like the original story. In the original version, there were four different "supermen" who showed up after Kal-El's death: the Cyborg Superman (who turned out to be a bad guy though I can't recall the exact specifics of who he was), the Eradicator (which was a quasi-clone of Kal-El empowered by Kryptonian artifact), Superboy (who was a clone of Kal), and the Man of Steel (a black guy in powered armor ala Iron Man).

Ultimately, the Cyborg revealed his master plan, obliterated Coast City in California (which was Hal Jordan, aka Green Lantern's home, thus resulting in Hal later going crazy). The real Superman was revealed to have been taken to the Fortress by the Eradicator after his death and, through some technobabble, was returned to life though he initially had none of his powers). The whole gang teamed up with other members of the Justice League to tackle the Cyborg (who had enlisted an alien super badguy named Mongol to help him). Cyborg guy died, Kal-El regained his super powers and returned for a while with long hair.

And, at the time, Lois and Clark were married which I presume they ignored in this thingamajig.

Yeah, Lois and Clark had only been dating for about six months at the start of the movie, and their relationship wasn't 'officially' known yet (though everyone was speculating that they were together anyway).

The two Supermen when they battled at the end were distinguished by the fact that the clone wore the red and blue suit, while the real one had his black solar suit on (and yes, he did have the longer hair).

The real Superman was unconscious for at least 34 days (since it took until 17 days after the fight with Doomsday for the robot guy to discover that he wasn't really dead because he detected a single hearbeat, and a further 17 days before he could locate Superman's body when his heart beat again so that he could steal it back from Lex), and quite probably more. He was also very weak when he woke up and had to have a "solar boost" or some such in order to speed his recovery (though he only stayed at the FoS during that time because the robot assured him, that for the moment, the clone was protecting Metropolis--which it was doing, at least until the Toyman incident which came sometime after Kal-El woke up).

The clone was very much like Lex--he who has the power makes the rules, so the people were rather afraid of him after the incident with Toyman, and in fact, the police commissioner sent some cops to "escort" him in for questioning (which he refused to do) and it ended out with the military starting to fight him before the real Superman showed up. The real Superman wasn't completely recovered at that point--he was only at like 67% of full strength, so the robot guy gave him some weapon of Lex's that Superman had in storage at the FoS which shot a kind of kryptonite bullet to help even up the two Supermen.

Oh, and at the very end, Superman and Lois were at her apartment, and she was typing up a story about his resurrection, and he corrected her spelling, and when she said that she didn't know that was one of his superpowers, he replied, "no, but I was the spelling bee champion at Smallville Elementary" so she finally got her wish that he acknowledged that he was Clark Kent in disguise.

Oh, and Clark's excuse for not being around during all of this was that he was sent off to Afghanistan to do some reporting from the trenches...

TV critics preview Clone Wars

Apparently Lucas actually let the TV critics see an entire episode of the new TV series...

Clone Wars spotlights characters

And as has been stated before, the show is focusing on the lesser known characters over the ones from the movies...

For those interested in this sort of thing, they've announced the nominees for the 2008 Emmy awards this morning...

I find it funny which show got the most nominations, since it's not a network show:

Quote:

"John Adams," HBO's prestige historical drama about one of America's founding fathers, was the overall frontrunner with 23 bids, including a lead-actor nomination for Paul Giamatti's turn as Adams.

Got to say, none of these series that Sci Fi is planning on airing appeals to me in the slightest. Not even the last one which sounds a bit like a rip off of Red Dwarf (before the accident which killed the entire crew). And the two "sci-fi/reality competitiion shows" -- :yuck:

Sci-Fi Greenlights Series

And here's some of the movies on their slate for next year (they've expanded from 24 'original' movies this year to 36 next year):

Sci-Fi Unveils Movie Slate

And here's a list of what they've got in development:

Sci-Fi Reveals Development Slate

Personally, I think whoever came up with the idea about the "second ice age" playing out maybe ought to check their facts a bit better: we've had more than one ice age on this planet already... and unless they plan to cover it for several hundred or thousand years, they're not going to have much of a series.

[sarcasm]And oh joy, look, there's four more 'sci-fi/reality competition series' on their development slate. Just what the world needs more of, reality TV.[/end sarcasm]

Family Guy is apparently doing a Star Trek episode ala Blue Harvest, too.

I'm a little less interested in that since I'm really not a Family Guy fan.

I'm not saying it wasn't, just that I don't particularly like Family Guy. Just not my cup of tea if you will.

Those who used to watch The 4400--did you know that they've apparently got at least one novel out based on the series?

The 4400: The Vesuvius Prophecy

I'm going to have to go over to the bookstore and get it... doesn't have anything to do with Mt. Vesuvius (it's actually about Mt. Rainier), but still, sounds neat...

ETA: It's apparently set in the middle of the third season, after the episode "Graduation Day".
