Actually not that bad. THe only thing that really depresses me is the cast looks really faceless (except Carlyle)

Just saw the Pilot and I must admit to my surprise I liked it. The good idea of 2 parallel story of past and present and how good they fit each other, and the idea of ancient ship worked pretty well. And I liked how everything was dark and messy. It was truly strange to see Robert Carlyle so polite and calm and it wasn't that bad. For now my biggest problem is the rest of the cast (which I barely could separate from dozen other people on this ship and I still don't sure if they are the cast ) which is faceless. And even if it intriguing and fresh for now I'm a little worry about a persective of 5-6 episodes forward when big story plot would be over and usual episodes will begin. But for now I'm pleased and I definitely will watch next episode.

And BTW SGU beats Dollhouse (I must say I even feel pity for this show)

I only got to see the last 10 minutes of part2. I'm not familiar with any of these characters or what happened in part1.

I watched the pilot and I can't say that I was very impressed. The flashback scenes came off as a blatant rip-off of the type used by Lost, at times even including the same type of sound as it cut between the main storyline, the flashback, and back again.

While the premise of having them on an unfamiliar ship with no real way to get home and not being a prepared expedition like Atlantis was, they still fell back on the addition of another symbol to a gate address (the only 9 symbol combination, yet never mentioned before), the show being set even farther away from Earth, and designing yet another type of gate. I'm going to guess that the claim this is going to be the "DS9 of the Stargate franchise" is because they've set up a really obvious conflict between the military personnel and the civilians trapped on the ship with them. I'm going to guess the less than ideal condition of the ship is a play on the crappiness of DS9 when the show started. I remember them attempting the civilian/military conflict before when Atlantis started, but to be frank it came off about as well as the short-lived Starfleet/Maquis conflict VOY was supposed to have.

The show ended by setting up what I'm going to guess is going to be the main theme of the show, namely the ship dialing up random gates and the crew searching for stuff they need to survive. I can already see a problem, the first one being how exactly are they going to get back to the ship? According to the gate physics they established, gate wormholes are one way, with the apparent exception of electronic signals like radio waves and video feeds. If the ship is on autodial and keeping the gate open, that should mean they can't return to the ship from the other side. If the connection is severed, how do they know what combination to dial in order to return to the ship since it's always moving? Oh, and why did they send the two people who know the most about the ship on what could potentially be a dangerous mission?

On a more petty note, I can't help but be annoyed with the "U.S.S." prefix being used for the Earth ship since it's clearly an Air Force vessel, just as the previous ships were. The correct prefix would be "USAF", the same as the cargo ships that actually are operated by the Air Force now, and the first two ships built by Earth on SG-1.

Watched ep. 3 (Air, p3) and 4 (darkness). I didn't like "Air". I understand that it was important issue to find water but I believe there are many more entertaining ways to do it instead dull walking thru desert. But "Darkness" was very good. I like how tention between people on board get higher and higher and now everybody practically hates Dr. Rush (Carlyle's character) blaming him for everything and he hates them back. It was a great idea to show how people with necotine and coffeine addicitons suffers without them.
And I'm beginning to enjoy another character Col. Young - the injured commanding officer who uses a rifle as crutch. This kind of leader I can believe, I like how he handles things.

Nobody really that hot in the main cast. But there is very hot woman soldier (from guest starring cast)who appears in underwear in ep4 and she was VERY hot! I looked in IMDB, she'll appear in 14 episodes.

"Light" was another good epidose. Writers found a great idea to refuel ship. Nice to see that Carlyle still didn't liek anybody.
So far SGU is the biggest positive surprise of this TV season

They've just started to air SGU over here and today I watched the 2-hour pilot. It was all right, but nothing Earth-shattering. I liked the darker, grittier feel of it even if it comes off as trying to do a Stargate does VOY/DS9 thing. But I liked the design of the Destiny.

Apart from Carlyle none in the cast really stood out, except maybe that Eli geek guy. Carlyle was good and will probably be the one who'll carry this show for me. Eli seems to be some geek-wish-fulfilment character and something of a Gary Stu for a certain part of the viewing audience. I mean, what geeky gamer wouldn't want to play a game and then be told he has skills that will whisk him off into outer space.

As for most of the rest of the cast, I had trouble picking them out in the dark. Who's a main character and who's a guest star?

I wasn't surprised that the Senator sacrificed himself. It was written all over him when we learned he had little chance of surviving.

I thought Ming-Na would have a bigger part, but I guess that will come later. And wasn't Lou Diamond Phillips supposed to be a main character? He isn't even on the ship.

Beats me, I never bothered to watch it when it was on here... The next time I'll watch anything on Sci Fi is when Eureka comes back on in July.

I liked the injured commander , but he was out most of the pilot. He will prove himself in next eps.

I watched first half of the sesaon and I still don't know for sure. As for Lou Diamond Philips I actually glad that there isn't much of him, since he has quite a nasty character.

What little there was of him looked promising, so I guess I'll have to wait.

But I like nasty characters. They add flavour to the mix.
