Hey, look what's up for pre-order over at Amazon:

Star Trek: Enterprise: The Romulan War

Though the release date isn't until 20 October now...

It's listed as 384 pages long... Seems kind of short for the whole Romulan War, but then, they've never actually said that they're going to start and finish the war in this book, either.

I read I think it was trek bbs had a report when they recently went to a convention and where the writers and editor Margaret Clark mentioned that the Romulan war books were going to be continued in more than one book. I think they mentioned it was going to be 3 books. That's just the rumor right now.

Ugh. They based T'Pol's appearance on season 1/2. Despite the fact that they stated point-blank in TGTMD that she was wearing a Starfleet uniform from now on. :rolleyesrequest:

Given that I haven't bothered reading Kobayashi Maru and don't really have plans to do so because of how uninterested I am in the direction they've taken with the profic, its not likely that I'm gonna pick this book up so I'll leave it to those of you who are to talk about this.

well Rigil you don't need to read it. MANY of the ideas seem to come directly from the Endeavour series....!

Similar with the Columbia stuff in the Destiny series... I actually get confused between Rigil's stuff and the published trek.

So to keep it easier... I mainly read Rigil's.

STAR TREK: Enterprise – THE ROMULAN WAR: BENEATH THE RAPTOR’S WING
by Michael A. Martin
[trade paperback]

At the start of the twenty-second century unconditional war swept across the Earth. A war that engulfed the great and the small, the rich and the poor, giving no quarter. Each side strove for unconditional victory, and as battle built upon battle the living began to envy the dead.

Chastised by the cataclysm that they had unleashed, the governments of Earth banded together. Humanity vowed to put an end to war, and to strive for the betterment of every living creature. A united Earth created Starfleet, an interstellar agency, whose mission was to explore the cosmos, to come in peace for all mankind. A naïve wish, yet man persists in the belief that peace is the way. Banding together with other powers to form a Coalition of Planets, humanity hopes that the strength each can offer the other, will allow for peaceful exploration.

The rise of the Coalition strikes dread within the Romulan Star Empire. They feel the growing reach will cut them off from is rightfully theirs. But, the Romulans know that the alliance is fragile, that the correct strategy could turn allies into foes. Perfecting a way of remotely controlling Coalition ships and using them as weapons against each other, the Romulans hope to driving a wedge of suspicion and mistrust between these new allies.

One ship, one Starfleet captain uncovers this insidious plot, Jonathan Archer of the Enterprise. Determined not to lose what they have gained, out manned and out gunned, the captains of Starfleet stand tall vowing to defend every inch of Coalition space. The tide begins to turn. The Romulans now plan to strike at what they see as the heart of their problem. With nothing left to lose the Romulan Star Empire engages in all out war against humanity, determined once and for all to stop the human menace from spreading across the galaxy.

You know, it's pretty bad when they can get T'Pau looking like she did from the Vulcan arc and yet miss when it comes to T'Pol, considering there are numerous pictures of her from all four seasons out there...

That picture of T'Pol season 1 is a poor choice for the cover. They should've used a picture of T'Pol in a Starfleet uniform from season 3 Twilight or Hatchery.

As was asked by one poster on Trek TBBS, Where is Trip?

Why is he missing off the cover? He killed?

Of course he's not dead. They establish that he survives long after the war in the opening and closing chapters of Last Full Measure, both of which are set in the early 2200s.

I'm just ... that picture of T'Pol is just so unbelievably bad that it's hard to get past it. Blech.

It's pretty obvious that all they did was take her head from the S1 publicity shot and tried adding her hair from a S3 publicity shot, so the angles aren't matching up.

I just checked out the list for next years books it looks like there's not going to be a new Enterprise novel to followup The Romulan war next year until 2011 0r 2012. The have way too many post TNG post nemesis books. I have'nt liked at all too post apocayptic borg aftermath stories in the books too dark and depressing. :yuck:   :tsktsk: They also have a bunch of TOS novels that are stand alone and 4 books based on the reboot trek movie coming out too.

Well, it's less than a week until this book comes out. Hopefully Amazon ships my order quickly, so I can get this book read before the Wheel of Time novel I ordered (which comes out the following week) arrives...

I hope that those of you who read it aren't disappointed. For my part, I've never gotten around to reading Kobayashi Maru, so I'll skip this one too. ;)

Well, I should be getting mine in the mail hopefully on Monday (Tuesday at the latest) next week, since Amazon shipped my copy late last night from Lexington, KY, which is only about a 2 hour drive from my house. And since I'm not using their 'super saver shipping' option but actually paid for it, I think I'll get it pretty quick...

Micheal Martin did an interview that was posted last month that goes into quite alot of details about the story and his ideas about what happens to certain characters story arcs in the book The Vulcan /Romulan history and the Kir'shara changing Vulcan society.Quite a few spoilers the interview is posted at Trekweb.
