^ I haven't even bothered to check out Transformers 2. I was so underwhelmed by the first one.

Well, despite my general antipathy towards the Oscars, I am rooting for one thing to win: HBO's The Last Truck: Closing of a GM Plant for best documentary short, just because I know exactly which plant is featured in that documentary. I know quite a few people who worked at that particular plant over the 20+ years that the plant was in existence, both relatives and friends and neighbors, so I'm hoping that it wins, even if it won't do anything for this area or our jobless rate.

I just read the new StarTrek movie won an oscar for best movie makeup. When it comes to Avatar I'm tired about all the hype when it comes this movie being in 3d.I haven't seen it and am not interested in it at all.

I don't know why they're so surprised that Avatar lost out on any of the big awards. I knew as soon as I saw what it was nominated for that it would only win technical awards, just like every other SF fic out there.

Though I do wish that District 9 had won something. And I'm sorry to see that the one I was hoping would win the documentary short category didn't (though I'm not surprised, I think I saw when the various things were nominated that most were picking the one which did win to win).

This year Oscar was very predictable, but mostly pleased me with results. I kinda glad that Avatar didn't win anything serious but even lost few "his categories". "Hurt Locker" was the most decent candidate and it took all it deserve. And finally Jeff Bridges get an Oscar :worthy:

Comingsoon.net has the new trailer up for Iron Man 2.

Looks pretty good. And Nick Fury is in the movie at some point...

The Iron Man preview was shown on Jimmy Kimmel last night looks interesting. I also saw a new trailer for Clash of the Titans the Kraken monster was really vicious in that battle scene with Perseus.

Meh! I didn't bother with the Oscars this year, and I haven't for many years.

Also glad that over-hyped Avatar didn't get much.

For those who remember the two Coreys who always seemed to star with each other in various '80s movies, there was this in the news today:

Corey Haim dies at 38

You know this remake fever Hollywood has getting out of hand when you read this:

Monkeys fly out of our butts: Wizard of Oz to be remade

Yeah, I know, there's been other versions of it (I remember The Wiz myself), but I'm sorry, a version from the idiots who brought us the crappy emo-filled Twilight movies? And the other one? What the heck are these people thinking?

Classic King Arthur tale to be 'reimagined' for modern audience by Guy Ritchie

I'm not sure about this. I doubt anything could top my love for John Boorman's 1981 film Excalibur.

I think I'll be passing on this one if it's ever made.

Robin Hood looks neat though.

Mission: Impossible star Peter Graves dies

While I don't remember him from that show (it was a little before my time, though I do know of the iconic 'self-destructing message' from it, among other things), I remember him best as Captain Oveur from the Airplane movies, where he delivered such classics as this exchange with a straight face:

Quote:

Roger Murdock: Flight 2-0-9'er, you are cleared for take-off.
Captain Oveur: Roger!
Roger Murdock: Huh?
Tower voice: L.A. departure frequency, 123 point 9'er.
Captain Oveur: Roger!
Roger Murdock: Huh?
Victor Basta: Request vector, over.
Captain Oveur: What?
Tower voice: Flight 2-0-9'er cleared for vector 324.
Roger Murdock: We have clearance, Clarence.
Captain Oveur: Roger, Roger. What's our vector, Victor?
Tower voice: Tower's radio clearance, over!
Captain Oveur: That's Clarence Oveur. Over.
Tower voice: Over.
Captain Oveur: Roger.
Roger Murdock: Huh?
Tower voice: Roger, over!
Roger Murdock: What?
Captain Oveur: Huh?
Victor Basta: Who?

Rest in peace, Mr. Graves.

^ By sheer coincidence I saw him in the first episode of The Winds of War (which I recently got on DVD) yesterday.

RIP Peter Graves!
