Second season of Eureka begins on Tues. July 10th at 9 pm EDT on the Sci Fi channel.

Has anyone else seen those little "infomercials" for various products supposedly created in Eureka? My personal favorite is "the verminator" though I kept picturing Kelly Bundy in that silly outfit whenever they say that name... And I saw one commercial were it was just Allison Blake and she was telling you that if you knew someone who was trying to create a blackhole, that it's okay to tell an adult because "friends don't let friends destroy the world" (or something like that)...

At least their commercials are creative...

So has anyone else been watching the show this season?

It looks like at least one other person (or more) may just find out what Henry's been up to tonight, and what he did to Jack at the end of the second season premiere. Which does not bode well for their friendship if that person happens to be Jack... And I wonder just who sees Kevin's dream and what they'll do with that knowledge?

Good episode :buttrock:

IMO much better than this season so far. I felt the show'd kind of fallen flat on these first 4 or 5 episodes this season. They're moving far too slowly with the memory-erasure/Kim's Death/Artifact/Henry's Revenge/Beverly's Consortium connections thing.

I used to think Fargo was the guy she was talking to secretly at the end of the last season (the one who is apparently in charge of the big secret operation) because that person on the other side of the teleconference had a GD emblem on their screen. But now I don't think so, as unlikely as that was before because of how bumbling he was, it's even moreso now...

I'm just wondering how they're going to get the characters out of the slumps they're in. Jack's not gonna be happy unless he's with Allison, Nathan's not gonna be happy unless he's with Allison or he figures out what the artifact does, and Henry's not gonna be happy unless he brings Kim back again.

By the way, Zoe's getting HOT.

And could Jo really end up with FARGO instead of Taggert? :guffaw:

A bit of news, apparently Michael Shanks will be guest starring on Eureka in a few weeks. His episode follows the episode his wife, Lexa Doig, is guest starring in.

Can someone explain to me how "Aluminum 26" (or 23, don't remember which) can have isotopes when, by the very nature of it's name, it's clearly an isotope of aluminum (with 26 or 23 neutrons to the normal number of 13 in an aluminum atom)? That just caused me to think "Uh ... what?"

ETA: It's aluminum 26 they reference, which makes no sense as aluminum is 26 (atomic mass)... *shakes head*

Apparently there is a naturally occurring radioactive isotope of aluminium which is aluminium 26. From the wikipedia article:

Quote:

Aluminium has nine isotopes, whose mass numbers range from 23 to 30. Only 27Al (stable isotope) and 26Al (radioactive isotope, t1/2 = 7.2 × 105 y) occur naturally, however 27Al has a natural abundance of 99.9+ %. 26Al is produced from argon in the atmosphere by spallation caused by cosmic-ray protons. Aluminium isotopes have found practical application in dating marine sediments, manganese nodules, glacial ice, quartz in rock exposures, and meteorites. The ratio of 26Al to 10Be has been used to study the role of transport, deposition, sediment storage, burial times, and erosion on 105 to 106 year time scales.[citation needed]Cosmogenic 26Al was first applied in studies of the Moon and meteorites. Meteorite fragments, after departure from their parent bodies, are exposed to intense cosmic-ray bombardment during their travel through space, causing substantial 26Al production. After falling to Earth, atmospheric shielding protects the meteorite fragments from further 26Al production, and its decay can then be used to determine the meteorite's terrestrial age. Meteorite research has also shown that 26Al was relatively abundant at the time of formation of our planetary system. Most meteoriticists believe that the energy released by the decay of 26Al was responsible for the melting and differentiation of some asteroids after their formation 4.55 billion years ago.[13]

But I won't know what's going on in the episode until about an hour or so from now. I didn't get home til 9:30 and I'm not planning on watching it until I'm done taping it...

Huh. Weird. Based on what I know about atomic theory, the naturally occurring state of aluminum should be 26 (13 protons & 13 neutrons in the nucleus) since it's atomic weight is 13. Dunno why there would need to be an isotope...

Guess that's why I'm a history guy and not a scientist.

Last night's episode was an interesting blend of science and religion. And it had SG1's Dr. Frasier in it as well...

And for those SG1 fans who are interested, the episode with Michael Shanks in it is in two weeks' time.

I was pretty indifferent to the new episode, mostly 'cause it just seemed so horribly predictable. Was there really ever any doubt that the preacher lady was innocent? Or that Dr. Frasier was responsible for everything? And I'm just a little irked at the rapidity in which Carter always jumps to conclusions. He's supposed to be a professional, but man ... he's like an Olympic long jumper to conclusions...

And have they officially discarded the Carter/Allison/Stark triangle? I find myself completely indifferent toward the Carter/Allison pairing (which is obviously the pair we're "supposed" to ship for) ...

Besides, Jo is much hotter than Allison. :P

Nah, I knew it would be Doc Frasier who was the culprit as soon as I saw her as the organist.

I did like the bit where Carter sees the book he borrowed from Henry back in the season premiere and remembers more of what happened... It must be very frustrating to remember that the guy you consider your best friend telling you that he blames you for the death of the woman he loves and that he hates you... especially if he happens to mention it to Henry, then Henry will just explain it away (like he did the dream from a few weeks ago). I can't wait to see what happens between them when they do finally have it out (again).

As for Carter/Allison--well, they did say before the season started in one of the interviews something like new friendships and relationships will be formed in the second season, that people you wouldn't expect to be working together would be, and that others wouldn't be... so I took it to mean that Allison and Stark would end up together, at least for this season (and actually I had that vibe from the finale from last season). Whether or not it becomes a permanent thing, though, I don't know. Last night was the first time that Stark has actually stated that he loves Allison still, though it was fairly obvious from his reaction to Carter's interest in her that he was still attached to her.

That was an interesting beginning for a two-part finale last night. I didn't even realize that it would be a two-parter until Henry's bit at the end about how the bacteria or whatever it had mutated again and was attacking people now, and that was mostly because it was so late in the episode that it seemed really odd they'd throw another twist in.

Though now that Beverly has returned, I can't wait to see what she and Henry have planned in the finale. Or how Stark and Carter go about rescuing Allison and Kevin from them. And I bet that Beverly still manages to double cross Henry and tries to make off with Kevin herself... It looks like it will be a fairly good finale, at any rate...

Eureka's been renewed for a third season. Not really surprising (since it was the highest rated original show on the air during the summer, barring that idiotic wrestling they have), but still, nice to know going into the season finale on Tuesday.

Well, I just saw the Eureka pilot episode, and they're going to start airing the show over here now.

I liked it and it shows a lot of promise. rather weird but in a charming sort of way. And it had some pretty fine looking women too...

I looked it up on the Internet. Anyone know why the seasons are so short?

I believe they're trying to use the USA channel model for the shows that the Sci Fi channel "owns" (since USA and Sci Fi are both owned by NBC themselves). I know that USA does the same sort of seasons with Monk, Psych and The 4400--short seasons (usually 13 episodes, though Monk on occasion has had up to 16 or 18, I think) that basically run through the summer.

It's a fun, quirky little show, KTR. I hope you like it. And consequences do come back to bite you later on it...

Have you seen their official site over at Sci Fi? They've got webisodes, information about the characters, etc.

Eureka's official page

Though I give you fair warning, the site does have stuff through the end of season 2, since the season finale is next Tuesday over here.

^ Thanks! I'll peek at that site carefully because of spoilers. :)

But since my IP is registered outside the US I cannot watch the webisodes... :oscar:

^
That sucks about the webisodes.

Be sure and check out the 'Made in Eureka' feature. It's various items that they "advertised" on commercials prior to the second season to remind people about the show. None of those 'inventions' have ever actually appeared in the episodes, but they're still amusing to read about... My favorite is the "Verminator," though everytime I see that name I get a picture of Kelly Bundy from Married... with Children in a superhero get-up...

For those who might've missed an episode of Eureka this season, they're currently airing all the episodes of season 2 on Sci Fi. Right now, they're just finishing with the fourth episode and are about to start the fifth...

And the season finale is tonight at 9 pm EDT...

LOL... there were a couple of immediately obvious references to other shows/movies in tonight's episode (well, that I can recall off the top of my head)... the two in particular I'm thinking of were both lines in the scene with Taggart leading various GD employees out of the building, though Taggert's line is a paraphrasing of the original:

Computer security system (faking Fargo's voice): You'll never find your way out. Resistance is futile.
Larry (panicking): Oh my god, we're all going to die.
Taggart: Relax, mate. He's fallen for one of the classic blunders.
Larry: What's that?
Taggert: Never go in against an Australian when death is on the line...

Overall, the episode was good, but not great. Hopefully what happened at the end doesn't mean that Henry won't be back next season, because I like Henry. And somehow, in spite of them all out-and-out lying (or staying silent) about Beverly being "dead" to the general, I can't help but think that she's going to reappear next season and cause more trouble for them. Or that the general will find out that they were lying, and then there's really going to be trouble... Ah well, just have to wait til late next June or early July to find out what happens next...

So I finally got around to watching the Eureka season 1 DVDs I got for Christmas today (since it's been extremely boring around here and there was nothing on TV). They've got as part of the bonus features the webisodes which apparently aired online during the first season as well as a couple of the "Made in Eureka" mock commercial spots on them. And the usual podcasts and commentary tracks...

ETA: The one bad thing about the webisodes is that it sends you back to the menu after each one, instead of just taking you to the next one in sequence. Though it is an amusing thing to watch...

LOL... okay, this is off topic (sort of), but they're showing that Blues Brothers 2000 movie on AMC right now, and I just realized (after the police commander starting wearing the black suit and shades in the revival scene) that he's actually Henry from Eureka... I thought he looked familiar when he was in his cop's uniform, but it took a few minutes to realize who he was...

(And totally OT from here on), but God, this movie is horrible. I mean, the cop car crash scene in the original Blues Brothers was awesome--but you also knew that the cops were actually trying to avoid each other and were trying to stop. In this one, it just looked like they were throwing more and more cop cars onto the pile for no good reason. I can't seriously buy that on a road that has fields on either side of it (even if the road is under construction, though has none of the cement barriers on the sides of the road) that these cops have no way to avoid hitting each other and continuing the chase...
