I doubt it, but one could always dream - presuming she ever went to a con again... :(

^ Nice of the actors to dress up for such an occasion. :)

Heh, I wonder if Jolene would consent to donning T'Pol garb if she did a convention? :P
Well, they had started to get into costume around 9 am on Saturday. So they were in the process of getting ready when the cancellation announcement went down...

But yeah, I think the people there appreciated them coming down in costume even after that went down.

I agree with CX, I think Jolene doesn't love much T'pol she played her for need.

Well, I did get my two photo ops (one with John and his wife Bonnie, even though I hadn't actually paid for one with her, and the other with the Klingons) in my email this morning.

Hola.

I thought I would drop in and see if anyone from TriS shared our experiences at FedCON '08 or as we have taken to calling it, NonCon '08. Distracted's dirty little mind pointed out the possible sexual implications of that lovely little sobriquet, but what the hell, it just may be appropriate: As Tycho and Gabe put it in their review of 4th Edition DnD, I felt a little like the violated castle when he drove the key home.

On the other hand! We had an excellent time with our little Convergence of TnT'ers. :grouphug: . Meeting at the con we had Distracted, her hubby, Enterprikayak, and Prisocisor, who is Ek's hubby. Also exciting was that we sported official Triaxian Silk T-shirts - 6 different designs. Two of them were our different banner images made by the wonderful chrisis1033 *nods* , and the other 4 made by Drogna. Distracted and Ek made them into shirts for me. You can see 2 or 3 of mine in photos of me.

Things were pretty uneventful for us until Saturday morning. Priso and Ek were a good deal more organized than I was and had procured these wonderous little things called SCHEDULES! to navigate what would be our oh-too-brief stay in Wonderland. We soon began to realize, however, that the snake-oil we took for a credible scheduling resource was woefully inaccurate and incomplete. We realized this when the doorman with the sown-on nametag became the first official FedCON representative to inform us that Anthony Montogomery would not be coming on stage for his Q&A. No biggy. Life goes on. In fact, life goes on remarkably comfortably without Anthony Montgomery. They probably should have just set the cruise on the Enterprise and let him stay home. Seriously. Cruise can do amazing things. It got me from Missouri to Dallas in 9 hours, then to Houston in 5, then back to Kansas City in just 16!

Other than the little private soire thrown for me by Jolene, Gigi and Menina during the waking hallucinations I experienced around hour 13 as I fled all manner of tornadoes, religious damnation and hellfire on the drive back to the water-logged Midwest; John B. was by far the highlight guest of the weekend, and not just because he was the only headliner that showed up and got to speak. If you venture over to the Conventions thread at TriS you'll see the leaky faucets dripping with praise for how he intervened to ensure fans got their questions answered and issues addressed following the panicky fallout that was to be known as the Meltdown of "FedCon" '08. Of course, I quotation "FedCON" because it was largely unknown to the average convention-goer (including myself, partially due to the fact that I didn't sign up until a week before the Con because I had intended to be knee-deep in the Quantico muck getting my eyes blasted out by the hot breath of a sergeant instructor)... that the convention was actually run by TrekUnited and Tim Brazeal (of 'failed attempt to save Enterprise' fame) rather than by the actual experienced convention organizers at FedCON Germany.

So we were heartbroken. Well actually, we were initially confused. Then amused... at what we thought for about 12.37 seconds to be a joke by a convention official who had just told the crowd he needed a whiskey... and then, we transitioned quickly through the following symptoms: :hissyfit: , :ensor: , :vulcan: , :'( , passing quickly through the stages of grief until finally... :eating popcorn:

No, not "acceptance", my friends, but Star Trek Theatre-induced euphoria. And I'm talking about laboratory-grade Ketamine induced euphoria, not that homeopathic eyelids-taped-open-I-love-big-brother euphoria you find at the local CIA blacksite. We sat up in my room watching Enterprise, Lost, and various other cornerstones of our shared distemper on my 1000W Klipsch 5.1 ProMedia speakers and a 22" LCD monitor.

Two things saved this convention in my eyes, and I think I can speak some authority for the group that went: Each other, and the bar.

No, no, we're not all alcoholics - on the contrary, what I refer to was the apparently only-sufferable-while-intoxicated nature of being surrounded and molested by "those that hold on like badgers" that sparked a relaxed and genuine evening of conversation and comradery with several celebrities as they swooned the night away on gin and tonics and vodka martinis in the hotel bar. As Priso pointed out in our convention thread, it was Ek's delightfully nonexistent sense of social convention :app: which brought us into confluence with the likes of Connor, John B., Gigi, and Garret Wang in and around the bar on Friday night. There were others, but I didn't know the names of all the B-billets.

The Early Bird Party (that Priso so craftily helped me sneak into like a couple of red-eyed teenagers sporting "McLovin"-esque fake IDs and Sammy Hagar t-shirts) was a real hoot as well since John B. showed up - complete with cowboy hat, his wife, and gratuitous amounts of previously-imbibed alcohol. Thus commenced the entertainment. Menina did the rounds at the tables as well but the night was wearing on, D's husband was fading on 5 hours sleep, and me and Priso were ready for a new rum jungle to conquer. In reality we were on Ek's dangerously short little prego-leash and were delighted to be so. She was a wonderfully energetic person to meet! Time and a half as crazy as she sounds on the boards and infinitely more witty! You won't find a more delightful, intelligent, or lovely young woman to absorb the violation of a cancelled convention with than Enterprikayak.

I must also include of course the fact that Distracted and I, too, were stiffed out of our shot to enter the Costume Contest. She actually came all ready and dressed up (Or should I say down? *nudge*) as MU T'Pol. And apparently all I had to do to channel Trip was part my hair and put on an Old Navy shirt spotted with palm trees and blue skies that I found at Goodwill for 3 bucks... Or so I got the impression from the bartender and the out-of-uniform Klingon who said I "looked like the guy on my shirt". We were going to perform a scene from IAMD where D walks down the isle, phaser rifle in hand, midriff on display like cold cuts before the starving hounds (referring of course to the impressiveness of her physique before a room full of likely sex-starved Trekkies), and pulls me out of the crowd to escort me off stage (apparently under arrest and in the context of playing a psuedo MU/RU Trip, probably hoping there are cuffs involved). It would have been great. She'd have swept the men off their feet, but alas, it wasn't meant to be. Maybe TPTB just didn't want her husband throwing that many punches to secure his bride :$

So as the convention ended, we said our goodbyes, the Canucks headed off to the Wild West to continue their Great American Tour (Ek and Priso), and I reminisced on the 7 minutes and 45 seconds I spent wooing the gorgeous Menina Fortunato.

There are far too many pictures for me to link to specifically - not to mention the fact that I took none of them myself, so I will instead link to the page of our convention thread where they all went up:

We had such a fantastic time that it has prompted discussion and subsequent committment by at least the four of us who attended NonCon to make plans for Vegas 2008. The biggest barrier for others who are working on attending is money. Ideally, we could have six to eight people going, but it will depend on a few of us saving some dollars. Wish I could just agree not to wear body armor when I get into the Marines and have them front me $2k

Um... why exactly did you sign up with yet another username, since you're still a member under your other name?

I couldn't figure out the right username/pw, the 'I forgot' button returned an error and so did trying to look at the Members List to find my screenname since I could probably remember the PW. I figured maybe you all redid registration when you changed the board style. And my email address has changed... which I thought was likely, but was confirmed by the fact that it allowed me to re-register under the email I now use, indicating that I was not registered under it before.

You know, you could have tried emailing an admin first and letting us know that you were having a problem signing in, rather than creating a dual. We may have been able to do something to get you online.

As for the "I forgot" button--is your old email address still active, or was it turned off after you graduated from that college? If it was turned off, then the site wouldn't have been able to send you the password in the first place.

And you could have reported this issue with the 'I forgot' button when you did create the dual earlier today in the "change to zeta board" thread in the Say Hello forum (if the original email address is still valid), so that chrisis1033 could try and figure out what is wrong and fix it, if the problem is something on our end.

LOL. Yeah, I haven't heard a word about mine yet either. It can show up around the beginning of November, if it wants to come later rather than sooner... it would be of great help with the slew of birthdays and Christmas presents I'm going to have to buy right about that time.

My best friend and I did both get the two photo ops we'd actually managed to get taken by the photographer by email last week, however.

*lol* I love that shirt! How frakkin' true.

I'm still waiting for my refund, as well. It would be nice if the organizers would at least send out something to let us poor saps know that they are working on it and haven't forgotten about us.
