I'm glad there's a new forum to discuss novels I have to say it's hard to pick favorite novels but here's a few Diane Duane's novels the Wounded sky was so good introducing great characterd K'stalk and the TOS characters really get great moments in thia book like the fact the Enterprise leaves it's home galaxy and we get to see them really getting explore the final frontier and scienctific exploration. I also like her Rihannsu Novels they are really good. Ia also Like Spock's world and Doctor's orders McCoy being in charge of Enterprise and then mysterioously disapparing beacuse of one the alien species on the planet. they really truly different altogether from her previous books I like Spock & McCoy working as a team trying to find Kirk. And Resolve the problems with the klingons. |

Hey chris, you should enable quick reply in these new forums, dude.
;) My favorite Trek novels are DS9's "Fallen Heros" and TNG's "Vendetta". There was also a pretty good TNG one called "Here There Be Dragons" I liked. I think the most recent ones I really cared for were the two "Avatar" DS9 relaunch books, the three "Q Continuum" books, the Section 31 books, and "The Lives of Dax". |

The Vulcan Academy Murders My Enemy, My Ally The Romulan Way How Much for Just the Planet? (cracks me up everytime) Dreadnought Battlestations (these last two because it doesn't center on the usual crew) Spock's World (I still remember how I copied the entirety of McCoy's speech out of chapter 9 of that novel because I liked it so much) I've got others, but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head... |

I really like J.m. Dillard's ds9 novel Emmissary based on the very first ds9 episode you get to see more of the Picard Sisko dynamic from the battle of Wolf 359 and what happened with him trying to rescue Jennifer & Jake. You also get to see Picards reaction to meeting a survivor of the borg attack and the fact both men have to overcome the fact Picard killed Sisko wife when he was Locutous and the anger Ben felt simmering underneath ready to explode .Picard was suprises at at the strong reaction from Ben who I really felt for in that scene both men were traumatized by the borg. And that Sisko with the help of the wormhole aliens deals with his grief. I like the lives of Dax and the short story anthologies Prophecy & change and The Dominion war stories told from Tng characters and Ds9 characters they're really good books.I like several of the mission Gamma books. I like the tng books Imzadi and the one that's about Data. I can't think of the name right now. Peter David's book about the borg. |

Nice list T' sara I also like Peter David's Imzadi it's one of my favorites as well as A.c. Crispin's novel Sarek. Also Corona By Greg Bear it's about a Vulcan science crew studying a nebula the woman T'Prylla is Spock's cousin and we see really neat Astronomy studies of nebulas in this book. |

So I'm currently rereading Crisis on Centaurus (an old TOS novel from the '80s) on my Kindle. It was one of my favorites, despite the reason for Enterprise having to come to Centaurus in the first place, mostly because we learn more about Dr. McCoy and his daughter Joanna in it. But man, I could have done with the nightmare last night about nuclear annihilation (which I know is directly attributable to reading this book, because the plot starts out with a matter/antimatter explosion at a spaceport which wipes out tens of kilometers of the planet's surface with the blast). |

Centauri IV to be exact. I don't think they want to be living on the sun, LOL... and yes, it's that system. I do wish that Pocket hadn't imposed that ridiculous 256-page limit on books back in the '80s. It really needed to explore some things more in depth than it did. Like it made a point of mentioning (repeatedly) that Sulu's back up navigator was from the area that was bombed; yet he was only mentioned a few times, and you only saw emotion from him once after the bombing. Likewise, one of the nurses on the ship was from Centaurus--she was falling for Chekov, though neither one had even so much as dated by the time they reached Centaurus, and then after 1 day in helping the recovery efforts, she not only decides to resign (understandably enough, since she can do a lot of good there) but she wants Chekov to resign from Starfleet too and stay with her there "because she loves him." :vulcan: Um, yeah... out of left field much? It also would have been nice to have seen more about the background of the Pure Humanity group (sound familiar?) who wanted to take over the Centauri government basically and get rid of all non-humans (and certain humans of "undesirable" stock) from the planet, built up the suspense over why Kirk shouldn't let the government goons get their hands on the surviving leader of the movement (rather than have the guy spill his guts over about 4 or 5 pages telling him a story about a "hypothetical" movement before Kirk basically stuns him after a brief struggle, stuff like that. Heck, even the bombing itself reminded me (kinda) of the attack by the Xindi, at least in the descriptions of the devastation caused. And this book was written nearly 20 years before those episodes aired. Though you'd probably like the reappearance of someone from an early episode of TOS, KTR, in the book. Namely a lawyer that Kirk should be very grateful to for his continuing career is in the last half of the book. Yep, that's right, Samuel Cogley is in this book. |

Heh! At first I thought you were going to mention a certain Irish lieutenant... But Cogley works nicely too. I might have to track this book down. |

^ Nah, that would be too easy if it had him in it. I think it might be the only book in which Sam Cogley appears (but I won't swear to it, since I pretty much stopped reading Trek novels in the mid '90s, other than the occasional one). The story's not bad, but it could have been a lot more had the author been more in-depth in it, as I said above. And Sam doesn't really do a lot of stuff in it--most of his lines are in the middle of the book. But if you're interested, you can probably get it from a third-party seller at Amazon. I know the U.S. store has it in paperback. |

Sam Cogley and Areel Shawl return in the novel The Case of the Colonist's corpse it's written in the style Perry Mason mystery novels. I thought Crisis on Centauaus wasn't a bad novwel it did need to be longer than 256 to fill in the blanks more when it came to the villians motives and the actions they too and the dealing with what their actions caused. |
