Yahoo has an exclusive article and trailers for this video game up. It's apparently set between Episode III and IV of the movies, and has the approval of Lucas himself... |

To be entirely honest, Lucas' presence actually makes me a little hesitant about this, particularly since he fumbled the ball so badly with the prequels. That said, I'm still actually looking forward to this game since, historically, LucasArts has put out some pretty kick ass games. Plus, you get to kick ass with the Force, and that's always a plus. With both this and Mass Effect coming out, I'm definitely going to have to buy an X-Box 360 now... |

Most of this info is rehashed though I'm still pretty eager to see the finished project... Kicking ass with the Force just sounds like a blast. I would never be a good Jedi 'cause the urge to do the kind of stuff that they're doing in this game would just be too great... |

Wicked cool. Some of the toys (you knew they were coming) for The Force Unleashed have been released and I happened upon this one today (almost bought it too.) Posted Image :hyper: I sooooooo hope to see this happen in the game. It would be unbelievably cool if the story had your Secret Apprentice character rebelling against Vader and then the two of them having a Force smackdown that results in Vader killing your character. :guffaw: Or maybe I'm just a freak... |

When I was watching the end of AofC, waiting for RotS to come on, they had a tidbit during the credits about this game, where they made an announcement about it. While for the most part in the game you play as Vader's secret apprentice, the first level of the game you actually get to be Vader himself as he goes and finds his apprentice--on Kashyyyk, of all places... And they showed some very cool clips from the game from the level with Darth Vader on Kashyyyk. |

Game characters get smarter... and less predictable The article mentions a few other games, but it uses TFU as its prime example of this... |

^ LOL... Yeah, it's probably best to wait til you at least have your paper written before you get it. I'll still be interested in hearing (when you do get it) if it really lives up to the hype, though. |

So, despite really not having the time for this game right now, I still picked TFU up last week. I've only played it a handful of times and then, only for an hour or perhaps 2 at the most, but I have to say, it's a lot of fun. Sure, there are moments of frustration in there (I loath the way the gameplay changes when you fight the Boss of the "level", and there's always those little bugs and glitches that irk me), but the sheer fun of kicking everybody's ass with the Force is a blast. I took on an AT-ST tonight (on Felucia, I believe) and the "finishing move" to destroy it made my roommate - who was walking through the living room at the time from the kitchen say "holy crap!" It's really hard to describe - you just have to see the wildly, over the top bad assness that is the Secret Apprentice, Starkiller (that's his codename, by the way). So if you have a console capable of running it, I highly recommend you at least rent this game and play it. The music and background visuals alone feel like Star Wars (and I adore how planets change and grow "darker" as time passes - the first mission is on Kashyyyk as Vader and the planet is all bright and shiny, but about some 15 years later, when you return as the Apprentice, the place looks dark and foreboding. Cool touch on the programmers' part.) |

^ LOL... I see you managed to work something else into your busy schedule of school, writing your Star Wars story, and trying to work on your research paper. Makes me wish I actually had a gaming system so I could see it... |

Well, in my defense, I did point out I've only played it off and on. It's not like Mass Effect, where I ended up going to bed at 0400 after forcing myself to finish the game. At the moment, I've just used TFU as a way to decompress my brain. And I am admittedly playing it on the Easy setting. |

^ Nah, I wasn't picking on you. With everything else you've got going on (especially with the paper, since you've finished the first book of your SW trilogy now), I can totally understand the need to do some butt kicking in a game like this to just relax and take your mind off the other stuff for awhile... I'm actually jealous that you've got the game. I wish I had some sort of game system so I could play it too, it sounds like fun... |

I read in a review in the paper over here that this game is essentially movie number 3.5 in terms of story content. Is that true? |

Yeah, pretty much. It's set between ROTS & ANH, and Vader's "Secret Apprentice" (codename: Starkiller) is pivotal in setting up the Rebel Alliance (a fact I actually have a minor problem with, as I thought they set the RA up in ROTS. But this is SW and their grasp of canon is quite often fluid). His family symbol is the Alliance starbird symbol (below) adopted in honor of his sacrifice. He also rescues Bail Antilles, Garm bel Iblis, and Mon Mothma from the clutches of the Empire after learning that he was manipulated by Vader into bringing the Emperor's enemies together. Posted Image Having finished it, I must say I'm a little bit disappointed in the story. It didn't suck or anything, it just wasn't as solid as I would have liked it. The love interest character - Juno Eclipse - frankly could have been replaced by a droid, she was that unnecessary, and the "love story" was even sketchier than Anakin/Padme. It really felt like there was some missing content (likely included in the comic adaptation and/or the novelization as par for the course with Lucasfilm stuff). But it was fun kicking ass with the Force. |
