George Lucas talked some about the two upcoming Star Wars TV series--the Clone Wars animated series and the live action series--in this article over at Sci Fi Wire:

Lucas talks about Star Wars on TV

So apparently they're planning on having at least some "minor characters" from the movies in the live action series, which is set between Episodes III and IV. Though no Jedi (why, I'm not sure--since if it's between the two trilogies, then there should have been at least some who managed to escape the purge, you'd think, from the last movie besides Yoda and Obi-Wan. At least for a little while...) I wonder which characters he plans on using?

I 've been really curious about what characters would be in the series and what kind of storyarcs will with the rebels and the empire and what they'll be up to between the movies on different planets or Coruscant.

Heh! We return now to Naboo to celebrate an obscure Gungan holiday. Guest of honour: His Excellency Senator Binks!

It depends on what stories and characters they're focusing on. I wouldn't mind seeing some stuff involving Winter's various missions for the Rebellion, for example.

Anyway, it's going to be at least a year and half, I'd say, before we saw anything on TV, since he's only doing casting now, and he's still got to film the whole season before he plans to offer it to anyone... So it'll be at least fall 2010 (or summer 2010, if by chance Sci Fi were to pick it up) before I'd even start looking for it...

Meh. I just have zero confidence in anything Lucas does these days.

Well, I still want to look on it. Great viewers interest and almost unlimited budget possibilities + no producers or studios to push and make changes except Lucas himself. Intriguing anyway.

New ‘Star Wars’ Live Action Series Begins Pre-Production?

Quote:

Australia’s SCI FI TV are reporting that the long talked about live action Star Wars series has actually started pre-production in Australia.

According to the report a number of ‘big names’ in the Australian television industry have been approached by Star Wars producer Rick McCallum.

SCI FI TV also speculate that the new series will be more adult centered, drawing the conclusion from the fact that some of the talent supposedly approached comes from adult centered Australian shows Love My Way and Secret Life of Us.

This speculation may actually be accurate given in the past George Lucas described the series as “Deadwood meets The Sopranos in space.”

The new series will be set between Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. The story is said to follow the Rebel Alliance as it gains strength.

It is also said that no major characters will appear in the series and neither will any Jedi’s, nor Darth Vader. However, if true this news doesn’t preclude appearances from the Sith (those that wield the dark side of the Force) or other not-so-major characters.

In one such example actor Jay Laga’aia has been in talks with George Lucas to star. Laga’aia played Captain Typho in both Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones. Rose Byrne, who appeared as Dormé in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, has also confirmed casting in Australia has been happening.

Additional rumors have it that fan favorite bounty hunter Boba Fett will also feature.

George Lucas himself has stated the series will be 100 episodes in length.

Given the series has been tentatively slated for a 2010 release, if these pre-production reports are true fans can expect to hear a lot of new Star Wars news in the near future.

This isn't about the live action series, but instead about another cartoon version:
