Okay... looking at the little drawing thing they've got running across the top of the Beyond the Saga forum over at TFN, all I can think of when I look at Jacen (I presume it's him, at any rate) on the right side of the screen is how much he looks like Chekov in that drawing. Kind of throws me...

O...kay... I peeked in at their 'fanfic awards' ceremony for the Saga fics that they're having today over at TFN... they certainly go all out for this, don't they? Considering they're only up to Best Short Story, and have apparently been doing this for the past hour and half so far...

Guess that's a preview of what's going to happen next weekend with the 'Beyond the Saga' fics that you're nominated for, Rigil...

Yeah, they definitely did go all out, didn't they? I dunno if I'll be participating much on Saturday since next Monday (not tomorrow) is the date of my final exam in this class I'm taking so I anticipate locking myself away from the internet somewhere and studying. I think I might print out my notes and take 'em to the library without taking my laptop (too much temptation to use the wireless modem and jump online, ya know?)

LOL... yeah, I know. It's always more tempting to do something you know you shouldn't be rather than what you should... But the class is more important, and I think they'll understand...

I have next Saturday off, so I might pop over there and keep an eye on it (though I'm not registered over there, so I can't congratulate you there when you win...)

When I win? You seem awfully confident. Me, I don't actually expect to win anything since it's mostly (I suspect) a popularity contest and I haven't been participating much in the various threads. In the event I do win something, I'll be surprised.

Rah.

Hey, I'm thinking positive here. Granted, I'm probably biased, but I do think you'll win at least one of the categories--maybe Best New Author, if nothing else. But then it's not me that was nominated so I can be positive you're going to win.

It's probably best, though, if you don't expect to win anything, then you're not disappointed (if, as you say, it does end out being a popularity contest) and you don't.

But considering there's only four other stories besides yours in the action category (and you were apparently the first one who collected enough nominations, if I remember correctly, in that category to qualify for the voting round), and three other stories in the short story category, and only three other authors in the best new author category, I'd say you stand an excellent chance. It's not like there's 20 fics all competing for the same handful of votes...

Impressive, Rigil...
Shouldn't that be "Impressive! Most Impressive!" ;)

Hope you do collect some winnings, Rigil!

Well, it sounds like there's some close votes for that award stuff over at TFN... the person who keeps reminding everyone that voting ends tonight posted this a few hours ago:

One last up before voting ends, there are some very close races right now where one vote can make the difference. Only 7 and a 1/2 hours to go!

For those interested, they're doing the "2008 Beyond the Saga Fanfic Awards" ceremony over at TheForce.net right now--Rigil's nominated in three categories: Best Action story, Best Short Story, and Best New Author.

Here's the link to the thread. And actually, they're up to announcing the winner of the Best Action category right now...

ETA: Rats, Rigil didn't win that one...

Like I said, I rather doubt I'm going to win anything. Admittedly, it's disappointing to lose, but *shrug*. No real surprise.

What's amusing (to me anyhow) is that, after the 'Action' one was voted upon (and I'll admit, I thought I was more likely to win that than any of the others), I looked at the other ones I qualified for and accurately guessed who would win. *shrug*

In retrospect, I should have bowed out at the beginning and withdrawn myself from the awards entirely because, no matter how much I doubted I was going to win, I find myself pretty disappointed that I didn't after the fact. Ironic that and not particularly conducive toward the Muse. [redit][/redit]

Sorry to hear about those results. :(

Was there any "favoritism" - i.e. someone who was liked by many and thus got many votes? Someone who won a lot in different categories?

I dunno and I'm not gonna even hazard a guess about that. It would sound like me being a sore loser and I'd hate for that to happen. Things played out like they did, so I'll just move on. Disappointed? Sure, but that's life.

Well, I wasn't quite certain why exactly that one which "won" the action category was considered one story in the first place. It was pretty clear that they were separate little stories on how to kill Jacen Solo... heck, the author themselves put this at the beginning of the thread:

Quote:

It's basically a series of somewhat twisted stories that focus on perverse ways of killing Jacen.

One of the stories, yes--but that person also won for "best series" for the exact same story--so which is it? A single fic with a bunch of chapters, or a series?

So a fic about "perverse ways of killing Jacen" won not just one but two contests? :wtf:

And that author's Jacen Solo in that story also won the "Best Villian" category, and the author won "Best Author".

So how's the next chapter in the story coming along, Rigil? Can't wait to see what happens next... :)

Uh ... yeah ... it's all Assassin's Creed's fault. I've been so addicted to that, I haven't really written anything in the last week or so. Been thinking about it, though, so that's hopeful...
