I've just started rewatching the series today, and it's semi-interesting. It's been a slow start, border-line boring even. I can see that JMS initially focused on the more sci-fi aspects of the show. One thing I can't help but thiking though is how much this show would benefit from a VFX remastering. |

I've been rewatching too, but I find the first season boring knowing everything that comes next. Of course, it sets the basis for the next seasons. And hairless Delenn is a bit odd to watch... |

Well, yeah, it doesn't get more Minbari than full crest/no hair, but after watching four other seasons with Delenn as half Human, it is hard to get used to the original look. Besides, I'm waiting to get to "bad-hair day" episode... :biggrin: |

For me, it's really hard to get into season 1 of Bab5 mostly 'cause of CDR Sinclair. I just don't much care for him (for some reason), even if I like a lot of the story elements that revolve around him. Maybe it's the actor, but once John Sheridan shows up as the new station commander, I much much prefer the show. The pacing of the show also quickens in s2, so I have to concede about the slowness of s1 ... And I like Delenn in both incarnations, hairless or with the flowing locks. What is really freaky, though, is her appearance in the pilot. Can't say I really disagree with the FX though. While I still prefer a lot of the science behind the show (the Starfuries kick righteous ass), I must admit that I would like to see the show's effects remastered by a company like the one that does nuBSG's effects. One of my favorite elements of season 1, though, is how the "bad guy" at the beginning of the season (G'Kar) is no longer the "bad guy" at the end of it, and how the "buffoon" (Londo) has already begun his transition toward darkness. That's probably the best aspect of the show for me, and is one of the reasons I prefer it to Trek. I mean, look at s3 ENT and how utterly cliched the "bad guy" Xindi are; there really isn't much difference (initially) between the Narn and the Reptillian Xindi, yet, the Narn come off much better. |

While I admit it would be neat to see B5 updated with new visual effects, I still think they should keep the old one. After all, B5 were the pioneers for CGI on sci-fi TV. Keeping that is a recognition of this fact. I do realize that s1 is a tad slow, and deliberately not so arc-based, but I like it anyway. Of course not as much as later seasons. Maybe it helps that I discovered B5 only in mid-to-late season one, and only had a chance to see the beginning (not counting the pilot, which I had watched on video) many years later. I don't mind Sinclair, even if I do like Sheridan better. And totally agree about the developments of the Narn/G'Kar and the Centauri(Londo. |

It may not be arc-based, but they're still doing an impressive job of keeping continuity. Events aren't completely forgotten by the next episode and actually get brought up several episodes later. Can't really say the same for Star Trek unless you're talking about DS9. But then, a lot of B5 fans accuse Paramount of ripping off B5 to make DS9 anyway. :P |

Of course. Never claimed otherwise. That's what impressed me about B5. It was thought through in advance. JMS had planned the whole thing from start to finish, even if he had to polish the details and replace characters. What I meant was that JMS deliberately didn't make season one arc heavy because he didn't want to scare viewers, by then unaccustomed to the concept, away. With ENT season 3, it had an arc but I seriously doubt TPTB had anything planned out ahead of time. They made it up as they went along. As for DS9, they also never planned the whole Dominion arc ahead of time. They might have had a vague idea. And they constantly had to fight the suits, who wanted less arc and more episodic stories. |

I'm not sure what it is about Sinclair. In some ways, I do kinda like him, but in others, he has that same absurd god-like thing that Archer had, with everyone telling him how great and special he was, and always being involved in every fight, stuff like that. It's like JMS was trying too hard to get us to like him. |

Sinclair is somewhat boring if you ask me. I don't dislike him, but I like Sheridan so much better than Jeff ends up looking bland next to him. Besides, I'm a Sheridan/Delenn 'shipper, so... :biggrin: Although Season 1 is slow, it is a must watch. As Rigil pointed out, some significant plot ahead revolves around Sinclair. And Ivanova rocks in any season... |

She was my favorite character the first time I saw the series when it aired, and she still is now. I remember being mad the last season because she wasn't on the show. |

Well, they've just done soemthing that was an annoyance I had with Star Trek - insta-love. A supposidly married woman from a 100 year old cryo-ship who's husband is convieniently dead, so she and the doctor fall in love within a day or so of her waking up. |

Riiiiiight.... That's why they also did the cliched "I love you but I'm still leaving" thing at the end. :rolleyesrequest: And Talya has been annoying me. For some slick, disciplined telelpath, she sure is pathetic when it comes to any kind of hostage situation (which she's usually the victim of) or pretty much anythign else. The majority of her screen time is spent crying or otherwise lookign weak and pathetic and it irritates me. :oscar: |

It's "Talia", FYI. When it comes to tepes, I much prefer Lyta Alexander ... though that might have something to do with the respective actresses. Plus, the scene in season 4 where Lyta and Garibaldi rescue Sheridan ("pain!") is one of my all time favorites. And JMS has gone on record as stating that he wasn't happy with how the Talia storyline turned out. Too little time for it to turn out the way he wanted it too. There are some elements of the story that just seem to have been abandoned entirely (the one with the her monitoring Kosh & that cyborg dude, for example). Ah well. As to the "Insta!Love" episode, I will admit that it's definitely among my least favorites. They can't all be Severed Dreams... |

I thought Sheridan was a more interesting Commander and Ivanova was one of my favorite character. About Talia Winters I didn't care about her storyline very much. I liked Marcus Cole and Ivanova working together in the series was an interesting dynamic. When it came to season 5 and Ivanova was gone I missed her character. |
