An author by the name of John Gardner wrote a series of official James Bond books after Ian Flemming.... So this is 100% for sure NOT the first new Bond book in 40 years.

I've actually read most of the Gardner books back in the day - they were fairly decent from my recollections, though I don't really recall much about them at the moment apart from the fact that Bond acquired a sort of live-in lover/girlfriend who was a spy herself. They were teamed up fairly regularly but the last Gardner book ended with her dying. Edited by Rigil Kent, 29 May 2008, 17:51.
